Artistamps
Quite simply: Art in the form of stamps. These little treasures can be made using honest-to-goodness gummed paper and then perforated with a special machine so that you can tear them off, lick, and stick to your favorite envelopes and postcards. That is the purist form of this art, but also the most expensive and time consuming. Perforating machines can cost thousands of dollars and perforated paper is not easy to find. The most common form of artistamps these days are computer printouts on full size label paper which is then cutout with special scissors to resemble stamp edges. Artistamps are easy to make and a growing number of people are now collecting them, just like official Postage stamps. There is more information than you would ever want to know about this artform at Artistamp, Inc. Two good sites for connecting are Artistamp Mailing List and the Artistamp Directory. Many examples can be found on the IDC site. A few more examples are Jean Borofsky's Dreaming Printer site from Groton, MA or buZ blurr's excellent artistamp sheets.
