postmark fourATC's (Artist Trading Cards)

If you ever collected baseball cards or Pokemon® cards, then you have a very good idea what this mailart looks like. Recently, I have seen a lot of interest in this form of exchange. It is relatively new art form dating from 1996. Basically, they are small ( 2 ½ x 3 ½ inch) miniature works of art which can be produced as an original or as very limited editions. On the back of the card is usually the signature, the date and the number (if the card is part of an edition). You can create, trade and collect these "little works of art" with artists from around the world. You can view some more examples in my ATC gallery . For more detailed information, visit Jourmana's Art in your Pocket page or the big original ATC page from Switzerland. They can be made using all techniques and materials like paint, collages, photographs, rubberstamp, assemblages, etc. The only "rule" is that they are supposed to be the same size so that they can fit into the plastic protective sheets used to store trading cards. Check out some of the variations produced by Ed Beal of Canada, Ed Stastny of Oregon and Stephanie Segall of Virginia. There is more about ATC's at the ATC web site in Canada.
