honoria madelyn starbuck :
At the close of the mechanical age photocopy ruled as the means of mechanical reproduction and the postal service was the technology of a global net. At the dawn of the information age wingless wireless messages fill the frequency layers between the earth and the sky. My research is about the international art movements in motion on the ground and in the air. My artistic process is to actively participate in the evolving cultural communities facilitated by digital, traditional, and emerging technologies of art and communications.
My creative work grows from the interconnectedness of cultures and art. I work in the communication art realms of the Correspondence Art Network and digital art networks. Art movements and their communities of artists are held together in dynamic tensions. The tensions include conflict between ideals and philosophies. The purest complexity of artists' thoughts is seen in their artworks, visual poetry and sequential art. Visual poetry and sequential art grow between words and images, celebrating fragments of each.
My work as an artist and researcher also contains words and images as parts of the whole. My work portrays tensions and balances between networked artists, their words, their works, within their collectives, and especially in their responses to the rapid expansion of networking technologies. The purpose of my work is to participate, observe, create, and synthesize aesthetic communications and to understand creative elements of the dynamic art movements of the information age.
